Tell me a little about yourself and The Ruskin.

I am the in house photographer included in The Ruskin’s wedding package (this is completely optional, so if you’d like to hire someone on your own, you are welcome to). I’ve been photographing professionally for almost 10 years, and with The Ruskin since they opened. It’s a place that’s very special to me, as it was a summer camp in another life, where I worked as a lifeguard! It’s a photographer’s playground and ideal for weddings.

The Ruskin was founded in 1896, and throughout its 121 years of existence, it has had a rich heritage and a fascinating history. Now it has been renovated and made into the best wedding venue in the greater Nashville area. The Ruskin is a 160 acre, completely secluded and gated property full of uniquely beautiful features, surrounding the lush landscape along the waters of Yellow Creek.

What are some of the things The Ruskin has that sets you apart from other local wedding venues?

On one property, we offer many unique, natural and timeless venue options. From the gigantic Ruskin Cave, to the classic Garden, to the rushing Waterfalls, to the fairytale-like Rock House, and the historic College, there are a variety of spots, indoor and outdoor, to accommodate your events.

How many people can The Ruskin hold, both seated and standing?

Our largest venue, Ruskin Cave, can accommodate up to 600 guests seated.

How much does renting The Ruskin cost, and what exactly does that include?

The 2 day package (Fri 12-9pm & Sat 8am-11pm or any other 2 consecutive days) is $7200, and one day rental (Sunday thru Thur) 12pm-11pm is $4700. Both packages include our in-house professional photographer, optionally!

What are the rates for different days of the week and times (Friday, Saturday, Sunday; morning, afternoon, evening)? What about different seasons?

We do add a fee of $500 for holidays. We also offer all-inclusive weekday (M-TH) packages, including caterer, florist, officiant, photographer, day of wedding planner, linens & decor, deejay, bartender, etc. These are $6500.

Is there parking available for guests? How many spots?

Yes – Plenty 🙂

Are couples free to hire their own vendors, or do you have a list of preferred vendors?

Couples may hire their own vendors; however, we have a list of local recommendations we are happy to share.

What is your alcohol policy?

Alcohol is permitted with a licensed bartender distributing drinks.

If a wedding is outdoors, what is the contingency plan in case of bad weather?

We have a few great backup options, such as the dining hall, the Rock House, the College, and of course, the cave!

Are there bridal rooms and groom’s suites to get ready in?

We have a groom suite and a bridal suite at the end of the Garden.

Can couples have their rehearsal dinner here? What about a morning-after mimosa brunch?

Many couples often choose to have a catered rehearsal dinner in places on the property that they may not utilize on the wedding day. Secluded and spacious but cozy, our indoor options are great for rehearsal dinners.

How far in advance can a date be reserved?

We have had couples book almost 2 years in advance, but I would try to book at least a year out.

Do you have your own sound equipment and speakers, or will those need to be rented or provided by the entertainment?

Sound equipment must be provided by the couple or entertainment.

Will your staff be involved in setting up and breaking down the décor? In what capacity?

We will provide tables and chairs for up to 200 people. The venue staff will not be in charge of setting up or breaking down.

What is the most common question you get asked by brides and what is your answer?

We get asked about the alcohol policy, cost, and if they really have to be out at 11 pm. 🙂

What’s your biggest tip for a couple planning their wedding day?

Focus on the reason for the day, because that is the most beautiful part of your wedding, no matter where you get married!
